Mike Andrade Issues Statement in Response to DACA Ruling
Andrade issues statement in response to DACA ruling
MUNSTER — In a 5-4 ruling, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected the Trump administration’s attempt to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. Mike Andrade (D-Munster) released the following statement in response:
Yesterday, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of over 700,000 Dreamers in our country. The United States of America, for most Dreamers, is the only country they have known. It is the land they love and call home.
The Court has ruled in alignment with our communities and agrees that they are here to stay. We must alter the divisive rhetoric, xenophobic policies, and racists ideals the Trump Administration has put in place for the past three years for DACA recipients and break down the barriers our own Indiana General Assembly has routinely built up against them. This decision allows hundreds of thousands of young Americans to continue contributing to our schools, businesses, and communities at large without fear of deportation and signals to all Dreamers that America is still their home.
While we celebrate yesterday’s decision, we understand that the fight is not over. Team Andrade will continue to stand with DACA recipients. I will do everything in my power as your next State Representative to support DACA recipients on their journey to achieve the American Dream.”
